Visual content will be key to successfully branding healthcare, insurance and technology organizations this year. This means marketers will need to use more visuals, infographics and videos in a brand’s digital marketing strategy moving forward.

The average attention span today is only eight seconds, and with the constant barrage of information online 24/7, it’s no wonder that audiences can only remember 20 percent of what they read if the content doesn’t have a visual component.

SPR recently came across an infographic from WebDAM and wanted to share highlights that make the case for a strong visual component in digital marketing strategies in 2016:

  • 84 percent of communication will be visual by 2018.
  • Posts with visual components produce 650 percent higher engagement than regular text posts.
  • 79 percent of internet traffic will be video content by 2018.
  • 81 percent of educated people skim instead of read online.
  • Today’s fastest growing social media channels are visually based. For example, Pinterest experienced a 57 percent membership growth in 2014; Instagram experienced a membership growth of 36 percent, and Tumblr membership grew 45 percent in 2014.
  • There will be an estimated 20 percent increase in digital touchpoints each year.
  • Posts with videos attract three times more inbound links than plain text posts.
